There and Back Again
A SixFoot Hobbit's Holiday
Well, I went to Ireland, saw my folks, and I encountered no (in order) dwarves, wizards, trolls, high elves, goblins, magic rings, wee beasties that live under mountains at underground lakes and ask riddles, wargs, eagles, werebears, giant spiders, wood elves, lake men or dragons and now I'm back.
Not much of a holiday, really...

I'd forgotten how good Guinness was in Ireland...
Oh, Sorry...
It's 1:35am and I'm quite merry...
I've been on a whirlwind tour of the east coast of Ireland today with my dad. Armagh, Down, Monaghan, Westmeath, Louth, Dublin and Wicklow. Not bad for one day. Later I met Munchkin, FionnTemplate and BucketWoman for a chat and went to a pub quiz at Newry Golf Club and drank the afore mentioned Guinness. Oh, and I also bought a new hat. Huzzah.

Finally
It's taken me about 30 hours to make it this far. My parent's machine is a bit of an antique and it's taken me 10 minutes to get from dial up to here this time. All my other attempts have ended in failure.I told them about broadband but they say that it's unavailable in this region at the moment. The wonders of BT...
Already I'm going a bit nuts. There's not much to do in Cloughogue (pronounced Clog). My mum has roped me into clearing out the attic. Today it was books. Lots of books. Very few of them mine. I like mine where I can get them. There were some old notes from school and university. I wrote some shite back then. I decided not to save any of it for posterity except my St. Colman's College report cards. I also found a Christmas present from 1983. Doctor Who - A celebration. 20 Years in Time and Space. Cool. It'll go well with my present from 2003, 40 years in the Tardis. On a Who related note, I've checked my copy of the FASA game I got from eBay. Mint doesn't cover it. Original dice, FASA order form and FASA catalogue. And they're in mint condition too!
I took my father to see The Day After Tomorrow tonight. He didn't like it. "Too slow", he said. I liked it although I thought the plot was guff. The ocean currents weren't even marked correctly. They showed the gulf stream moving from the British Isles to the Gulf of Mexico. Really, where's the realism...?

On the move
I am on holiday! To celebrate this, I am using a phone booth at Stranraer Harbour whilst i wait for the 2:45pm HSS service to Belfast. Cor, the wonders of modern society!
When I left RPC this morning Ialso received a parcel from the postie, the First ed. Fasa box set of the Dr Who RPG...in mint condition...with original dice even! Huzzah for eBay! I have been looking for this for 12+ years. I must be living right!

Once again, blatantly ripped off...

Take the What High School
Stereotype Are You? quiz.
I thought I'd get Geek, but 'twas not to be. At least it didn't think I'd be a Goth (shudder).

One of these days I'll Mean it!
Never again. I say it every time. I'm not long back from helping Slacker's Ex fom shifting her stuff from his place. It's only taken the better part of 2 years or so but it's actually happening and muggins here has been roped in to help over two days. I hope all this is good for my karma, it's not good for my back...

The Tragedy of Hector
That's my alternate title for Troy. I've just returned from seeing it at the DCA in town. Gods, what a movie. I was prepared to hate it or nitpick about differences between the Film and The Illiad but I just didn't care. An immense spectacle of epic proportions! With a cast of thousands (of cgi people and ships)!
I wonder if Sean Bean and Brad Pitt got together and compared notes about getting feathered at the end of a movie. I hope they make a sequel (Homer did) and apply the same production values to The Odyssey
For those of you, like me, who love the ancient myths of the Greeks try Mythweb for fairly cool abridged versions.

Messing about in boats
I was invited to go on a kayaking trip today. Something outdoors and fun, I thought. Makes a change from Bloodbowl , so I went.
First canoe wasn't too successful. I capsized twice. It was so small and nimble that I had trouble controlling it. The least stroke sent it careening over the lake surface. The instructors then took pity on me an offered me a substantially larger canoe, the Star Destroyer of canoes. Much more to my taste. It took an effort to change its direction and was considerably more stable. In this I was able to power back and forth across the lake at a fair rate of knots. Groovy. It was a shame when the hour was up. I hope to go back again soon.

Oh, God...my head is completely...
...fine! How about that? I know it doesn't dserve to be, the sheer amount of booze I put away last night but there you go. Onward to a fine day of bloodbowling and faff then.

4:50 am and I'm totally smashed
Dirty Fairy and Cool Car Guy decided to throw a bar-b-q. Fair enough. Myself, Beren and Luthien and Bubble and Ooze were also in attendance. (Note: one unmarried guy among the couples.) Many meat feasts later and we retired to the living room to consume more alcohol after Beren and Luthien left.
Much talk into the wee small hours ensued after a relocation to Bubble and Ooze's place after we had finished all the booze in the other flat.
This included the very bad idea of internet purity tests, which I lost. (92% on the hundred pointer and 95% on the 1500 pointer.)
I left at 4:10am and ran into BTBubble on the way down the road. Strange coincidence as I had previously met her on the way to work at 11:30am on Saturday. Short discussion ensued as we had previously worked together at Purgatory Ltd. Weird.
I've now got back home and found Double Barrel sleeping on my couch. I wonder what the Ubergeek has got up to in my absence...

Good Luck!
I'd like to take this opportunity to wish my good friend ChocolateMuffin all the best as she's going into hospital for an operation tomorrow. It isn't anything serious and she should be out within 24hrs but it's traditional to wish people good luck on such occasions, so...

It's 1:00am and I'm drunk again

Yes, Slacker, I do like the music from Force Commander. I've got it.
But seriously, eating people? In this day and age?
By the way, I'm just back from Agent Grey's Birthday Bar-B-Q and it was fun. Steaming chunks of carbonized dead animal, booze, discussions on Terrorism with Tinuviel and Mystery Girl and on Prophecies with Chaos and the Ubergeek.
I can't remember quite what I ate, but I do remember that Dirty Fairy and Cool car Guy weren't in attendance. Coincidence?

Disappointed

You are a MASTER of the English language!
While your English is not exactly perfect,
you are still more grammatically correct than
just about every American. Still, there is
always room for improvement...
How grammatically sound are you?
brought to you by Quizilla
I thought I was better than this. Nuts.

A man can never have too many books*
*Except when he's moving house.
Spent a fair chunk of today helping a friend move house. Many, many boxes of books. How come paper is so heavy? 'Muffin says it's because there's less air in the boxes but I don't believe her. It's paper, for gods sake...
And tomorrow after I finish work I'll do it all over again and help Sylvia move as well. I hope there's no bodies under the wool, I have nowhere in mind to shift them...

New title...
...And I didn't even get charged £1,000,000 for it.
Decided to change the title of my Blogg for two reasons:
1 - I don't muse very often
2 - It differentiates it from Creative Slacker's Blogg.
I've been meaning to do this for a while but since I was playing about with the controls on the new format of blogspot, I thought I'd do it now.

DAFTAs
Well that's that for another year. The highs and lows of the society have been reached and our peers have selected the great and the good from among us. What am I talking about?
The DAFTAs of course!
The DURPS Awards For Theatrical Absurdity.
The 6th annual awards ceremony was held yesterday and once again I was compere-ing it with my partner in crime, Rules Monkey. As usual it was good for all of us to get together and recount many glorious lies of battle and single out the best and worst of them for accolades and ridicule. I love this day and long may it continue. You can see the results here
Afterwards we retired and watched Terry slate the acts in the Eurovision Song Contest. This is a great BBC institution and a worthy laugh. As usual the voting made no sense but the company was fine. On to the Ukraine next year!
