New year, New life

And behold, in the early days of 2005 there would come a sign that we must quit this place of our ancestors and travel to new locations and dwell among strangers...

So, in January, we recieved a letter from the landlords that the lease was up and new Scottish Housing legislation would come into effect at RPC and that it would no longer be able to house all three of us as the place was only licensed for two people or one family. Bit strange in a three bedroom flat but who are we to argue with the powers that be?

There was a crazed month or so of flat hunting to follow. Laid Back Guy and myself decided that it was time to quit the place. Sure, it was cheap but the place needed serious redecoration and repair and the only thing holding us there was apathy and inertia. LBG found somewhere within a week using his insane luck powers but I was not so fortunate. Oh, I found this place all right, right price and so on but the landlords needed more ID than an old UDR/RUC joint foot patrol. Having sorted this (and those of you who know me will realise how difficult this was) all I had to do was wait for the bank to tell them that I was able to pay on time when required. And so I waited....and waited...and waited. And then someone else got the flat. Bum. Not to worry, there was a similar flat on the same street and when the bank finally came through I was allowed to get the keys. Huzzah.

Moving was unpleasant. It always is. Each time I say never again. At least this time it was my own stuff and I had built up some move house credit with several friends (many thanks to Agent Grey, Chaos, Ubergeek and Laid Back Guy). There was a minor dilemma when I realised I only had room for one of my five sofas but I managed to leave the rest behind with only a minor wrench. When it was all over I had a place of my own for the first time. Cor, what an adventure!

With the first sign would come a herlad bringing news of events and requests for aid in many travails accross the land and one would be found suitable...

The week I got the news about the lease I also bought a Courier on the Friday in my usual haope of finding a job that would (1) bring in more cash and (2) more importantly get me away from the Mecca and stop my brain's descent into mush. There was one that Friday that appealed with the Inland Revenue. I applied and went to the interview. What a rigmarole! More forms of ID than I knew existed. I had to send back to Norn Iron to get several of them. I never knew that there was a long form Birth Certificate.

Simple enough interview in three stages. A computerised aptitude test a standard interview and a role-playing exercise. Joy. Since the interview I've been on tenterhooks waiting for the results and I was 'phoned today about 20 minutes before I started this blogg. Success! In one month's time, no more Mecca. New flat, new job, new life maybe even? Let's wait and see.

Blogging on and off since January 2004.
