It's 1:00am and I'm drunk again

Yes, Slacker, I do like the music from Force Commander. I've got it.

But seriously, eating people? In this day and age?

By the way, I'm just back from Agent Grey's Birthday Bar-B-Q and it was fun. Steaming chunks of carbonized dead animal, booze, discussions on Terrorism with Tinuviel and Mystery Girl and on Prophecies with Chaos and the Ubergeek.

I can't remember quite what I ate, but I do remember that Dirty Fairy and Cool car Guy weren't in attendance. Coincidence?

Disappointed

Master!
You are a MASTER of the English language!

While your English is not exactly perfect,
you are still more grammatically correct than
just about every American. Still, there is
always room for improvement...

How grammatically sound are you?

I thought I was better than this. Nuts.

A man can never have too many books*

*Except when he's moving house.

Spent a fair chunk of today helping a friend move house. Many, many boxes of books. How come paper is so heavy? 'Muffin says it's because there's less air in the boxes but I don't believe her. It's paper, for gods sake...

And tomorrow after I finish work I'll do it all over again and help Sylvia move as well. I hope there's no bodies under the wool, I have nowhere in mind to shift them...

New title...

...And I didn't even get charged £1,000,000 for it.

Decided to change the title of my Blogg for two reasons:

1 - I don't muse very often
2 - It differentiates it from Creative Slacker's Blogg.

I've been meaning to do this for a while but since I was playing about with the controls on the new format of blogspot, I thought I'd do it now.

DAFTAs

Well that's that for another year. The highs and lows of the society have been reached and our peers have selected the great and the good from among us. What am I talking about?

The DAFTAs of course!

The DURPS Awards For Theatrical Absurdity.

The 6th annual awards ceremony was held yesterday and once again I was compere-ing it with my partner in crime, Rules Monkey. As usual it was good for all of us to get together and recount many glorious lies of battle and single out the best and worst of them for accolades and ridicule. I love this day and long may it continue. You can see the results here

Afterwards we retired and watched Terry slate the acts in the Eurovision Song Contest. This is a great BBC institution and a worthy laugh. As usual the voting made no sense but the company was fine. On to the Ukraine next year!

It's 2:03am and I'm a bit tipsy. Not staggering-around-fall-on-your-face-drunk nor I've-lost-the-volume-control-on-my-voice-and-everyone-is-my-friend-drunk. Just tipsy enough to get an attack of the maudlins probably brought about by the introspective walk in the rain I've just taken. Rats. I should never be allowed to combine rain, solitude and alcohol without at least a walkman.

It goes something like this: I'm in the minority.

"Earthshaking!" you cry. "You're a gamer!"

No I know this. I'm in a rapidly increasing minority of gamers. Single gamers. (Groans from the audience, catcalls of get over it abound.)

There's fewer and fewer of us as time goes by. Soon I'll be that last bastion of geekdom. The Gamer Single Bloke. And it's starting to rankle more and more. The number of couples I can name of the top of my head is worrying. Soon there'll be none of us left. Already I feel like the comedy bloke in the American Light Drama. You know, the one everyone cheers when he appears for his weekly cameo. The one the girlfriend disapproves of. The one who drags the star into the amusing scrape of the week.

Perhaps I should embrace this trend. If it continues I'll become the Mcguffin in my friend's lives. After all, what else should the High Priest of Mcguffin aspire to?

Rewarding as this sounds, I wonder when I'll get a plotline of my own...

Playing Hooky

I've just had a very pleasant weekend away.
No.
That's not strong enough.
Start again.

I've just had a DAMNED FINE TIME!
That covers it.

It started at the start of the week when I was reminded that I was invited on this trip. "Damn", sez I, "I'm not sure if I can get the time off". "Try", sez they and thus I do. One spurious family emergency later and no small amount of guilt on my part (self administered I hasten to add) and off we go to Lossiemouth. (The even further North.)

But it wasn't the frozen North! We had good weather! I even got burned!! That's not happened in over 15 years. We blokes (Cool Car Guy, Agent Grey, Beren, Greenstreet and myself) wallowed in manly pursuits like wood hewing and the like whilst the ladies (Dirty Fairy, Tinuviel and 'Muffin) applauded and gathered twigs and the like. There was booze and food aplenty, ancient ceremonies on beaches, bonfires, faff, Pop-Up Pirate and more. Seven hours on the beach! Fresh air exercise and friends. Huzzah. Gifts that had been made were exchanged (I'm kak-handed so no gifts were made. A blot on my personal landscape but all silver linings have a cloud).

The flat we stayed in was perfect. This is no hyperbolic exaggeration. It really was. I'd go back like a shot if I could. Many, many thanks to 'Muffins folks for letting us use it. In fact, I will go back and take the LAAG with me for a weekend or a week if permitted (I know which I'm angling for). It's now 4.10 am and I'm knacked. I'd describe the weekend better only that'd be effort.

Singing
"How many investigators can you get
In a Cthullu culties garden"

I'll be humming that for weeks...

The Scouring of the Bus

Well, that's the Nationals weekend almost over for me. I've attended, imbibed, played, faffed, sat behind the wheel of the bus and shouted at 2-3 in the morning (sorry!) and all sorts of other stuff. The bus is clean and back at the university car park.

So why is my weekend not over yet?

'Cause I've still got to give back the keys and the log book! For some reason, there's no-one about at 3:30am at the union. Curious...

But back to the main event! The team achieved their goal! We didn't win! That prize went to BURPS of Bradford. Expect great big comedy bombs next year. The General got an honourable mention for his Wood Elf army painting, Horse Girl came third in Homebrew (I suspect socialite was overly stern in marking to avoid cries of "fix!"), Slacker came second in open action (check out his Blogg soon to see how smug he'll be!) and Oddie came first in the Steel Yourself category (swashbuckling) again. Cool.

For myself, I was forced to play D20 Star Wars on both days with argumentative players. Nothing could be done without at least 4 people wanting a say in the minutiae of any plan. Dull. To make matters worse, on the first day, my character didn't seem to be designed with the scenario in mind. Nothing to do. Ho-Hum. I think I'm going to give SW a miss from now on. Yes, it is my favourite system, but you need good players and a good GM to make it work. SW is about banter, defying the odds and making it up as you go along. Not detailed plans and a 15 minute discussion about if we should go up or down in the turbolift first. I think I'll try systemless next year. No dice, no system, just solid roleplaying.

A vote of thanks on two counts here to Horse Girl and 'Muffin. They made SPECTACULAR costumes for the fancy dress part of our weekend and also acted as angels of mercy when Oddie's crew became stranded after a car crash; 'Muffin fetching them on the day and therefore not getting in until 11pm on the Friday and then both of them returning the victims on the Sunday. Cheers, guys! With any luck you'll be able to see the photo's of the cozzies on one of the bloggs soon and also get a chance to see Agent Grey's K-9 as well. It's really cool too.

For Neither Love Nor Money...

I hate shopping for clothes. It's one of my least favourite pastimes. It ranks up there with going to the bank or having a tooth extracted. The problem is all those trendy shops. The assistants look at me as if I've dropped off a UFO. OK, I dress scruffily and am not the right shape, but come on...at least pay me no attention rather than the normal derisive curiosity.

Today I wouldn't have minded so much only NO SHOP IN DUNDEE stocks this simple item of clothing. I spent two hours looking for one and didn't find any. Not one. Once upon a time, a few years ago, you couldn't enter a shop without tripping over several rails of them.

What is it?

A waistcoat.

6:05am and I'm quite sober...

Makes a change. Well, not really. I'm normally a very sober person, it's just that recent posts may have skewed the impression.

I've had a very tiring week. 19 days without a day off, a 50hr week and a friend's stag night at the end of it all. Wow. It's a wonder that I'm still sane.

Today, well...Yesterday now, was declared a day of faff. I got to wake up late, potter about, watch the Americans make a hash of Scrapheap challenge and go to the cinema with Slacker. I can wholly recommend Shaun of the Dead. Spaced the Movie but more so. I didn't miss either the £5 or the two hours spent watching it. The movie was very clever and the opening sequence was a very smart insight into modern living. Go see it if you like Channel 4 Brit Com.

As to why I'm still awake? Slacker loaned me the new Battlestar Galactica miniseries. I loved it! It was a very good take on a childhood favourite. The only thing missingwass the original music (which made a couple of cameos). The female Starbuck didn't change the character at all and thecharacterizationn of Baltar was inspired. The only drawback? Boxy lives! (Noooooooo!)

It's 7.05am and I'm not as drunk as I was...

These Bloggs seem to have a running theme...hmm...

Well, after last weekend's shindig I was obscenely cheerful and it lasted for most of the week. I woke up with a daft grin on my face and went to work happy, like I was something from Sesame St. (Muppet or Human, your choice)

It couldn't last. I'm not sure if it was the two 12hr+ shifts I was forced to work this week in addition to my normal ones, with one more to come (today), or if it's my usual dissatisfacton with life rearing it's ugly head but I'm suddenly hacked off with the world in general again.

Maybe it's my return from Bubble and Ooze's sten night and the demon drink is having it's wicked way with me or it's my return from the sten night and I'm bemoaning my single status again. I hope it's not the latter, I thought I got all that out of my system last month.

1.37 am and I'm even more smashed

I can almost see the keyboad without typing double.

The end of semester party has just ended with the attendance of such notables as Dirty Fairy, Cool Car Guy, Agent Grey, Chocalate Muffin, Rules Monkey, Horse Girl, Double Barrel, Ubergeek, Mystery Girl, Chaos, Friend of Chaos, and Airman and Spouse of Airman.

Gods, but I wish I cold be more original when drunk.

It was fun, especially the game known as Never, Never (thanks, Sylvia.)

1.04 am and I'm somewhat smashed

I've just said good-bye to Dirty Fairy and Cool Car Guy. Everyone who turned up to Tinuviel's birthday party seemed to have a good time. I even got to deplete Beren's whiskey reserves. (Huzzah.) With any luck everyone will turn up to the end of term/semester bash tomorrow. Those who were here for the birthday bash will hopefully carry on where they left off (and bring back the whiskey).
