I have returned...

What have I done since my last posting?

Seen freinds and got drunk at least three times, twice at fancy dress parties.
Changed shifts at work so that I can game more often.
Had my computer broken by Jamalen, but it's ok, he arranged for its replacement on the cheap.
Argued with Telewest a lot.
Fixed my new computer with help from Muffin so that I can tell you all about it.
Organised a Call of C'thullu LRP.
Had my car fail it's MOT so now I'm a pedestrian again.
Bought my sister's Christmas present.
Bought my christmas present.
Faffed.
Now on with the ripping off of other perple's bloggs. Huzzah!

Top quality Beeb drama...

I was idly trawling through BBC7's listen again schedule hunting out some of my favourite comedy shows this evening and I came accross a trailer for Troy, a three part radio play of epic proportions. I hunted it up and was swept away for the next one and a half hours to another time where the gods walked among men and doing deals with fate could bring great nations down. Oh, and there's some sort of love story too...

If you have the spare time, you can find part one here. Do so, you won't regret it.

Disturbing Images...

Just after completing the LotR marathon the other day I decided to launch myself into the books for my annual re-read of them. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that this time Tom Bombadil and Goldberry appeared as Tom and Barbara from The Good Life!

Confused? You bet I was!

I think my upstairs needs a good dusting.

Lord of the Rings...

I've had nothing better to do today so I watched Peter Jackson's LotR Trilogy. All ten hours. And as usual, in any media format, the ending left me a gibbering, emotional wreck for five minutes. (Hey I'm in touch with my feelings, 'k?) So to cheer myself up I went looking for Tolkien Guff and found this on the Sarcasm Page...

Beginning Questions

1. Just exactly what was the nature of the friendship between Gimli and Legolas?

2. If Aragorn had the option, would he have ditched the Fellowship for a date with Pamela Anderson?

3. Why didn't Gandalf just blow up the armies that got in his way, if he was so powerful?

4. How many times is the word "passed" used in LotR? (No peeking!)

5. What exactly was in lembas? (Hint: in Letters #210, JRRT says quite explicitly that lembas is not a "food concentrate".)

6. Why didn't the hobbits in the Shire rise against Sharkey and his men sooner? (Were Frodo, Sam and the lads a cut above hobbitdom and thus extraordinary?)

7. If Aragorn truly spent uncounted years as a lone Ranger, then where the hell is Tonto? And why doesn't he wear that mask?

8. If Frodo hung the Ring on a chain, why didn't the chain turn invisible?

Advanced Questions

9. When Isildur had control of the One Ring, why didn't he use it to command the Ringwraiths? Or the Elven-rings? Or the Dwarven-rings? He could have ruled the whole of Middle-earth with that Ring, yet he decided instead to just write a couple of letters and then go for an unfortunate swim. What's his problem, anyway? Was he stupid?

10. When Legolas introduces Gimli to Treebeard, Gimli bows low and his axe falls to the ground. Treebeard notices this, but merely comments "Hoom! A Dwarf and an axe-bearer!" rather than smash Gimli to Play-Doh™. Doubtless you've heard of the poem, "Woodsman, Spare That Tree!"; did Tolkien have plans to write another version, titled "Tree, Spare That Woodsman!"?

11. Why is the tale of Beren and Luthien subtitled "Release from Bondage", when we never even once get to see her tied up? (And I was really hoping, too.)

12. And if, as is likely, a bacterium had landed on the inner surface of the Ring, would the Ring corrupt it into an evil bacterium? Would it be invisible to other bacteria? Would its' life stretch out and become an unending weariness? Would it use its' increased strength and stature to rule over other bacteria? Would it fight to keep other bacteria from adhering to the Ring? Would it still evolve genetically, or would it instead become a Bacteria-wraith?
Advanced Questions

13. When the Dwarves of beautiful Khazad-Dum built their Western door, why did they allow it to be inscribed with the insulting name of "Moria" ("Black Pit"), a name that would only be earned long years afterwards?

14. Reconcile Tom Bombadil's statement that he is "Eldest" with Gandalf's statement that Fangorn is "the oldest of all living things". Extra Credit: suggest a valid date of birth for each of them. Document your answers.

15. Aragorn states (Two Towers, p. 18 hardback) that Sauron never uses the name "Sauron", nor does he "permit it to be spelt or spoken". Reconcile this text with the text of Return of the King, p. 164 hardback, where the Lieutenant of Barad-Dur clearly states, "I am the Mouth of Sauron".

16. Though Moria is, by rightful ownership, Dain's, Balin nonetheless referred to himself as "Lord of Moria". Helm's Deep is clearly the property of the Rohirrim, being part of lands granted to them by Gondor long years ago, yet in Return of the King p. 360 hardback Gimli declares himself "Lord of the Glittering Caves". Explain the laws and history pertaining to Dwarven property rights, and how those differed from the customs of Elves and Men. For full credit your answer must also reconcile Dwarven property laws with the generous nature of Aule, the Dwarves' creator.

17. How would the history of Middle-earth have differed if Sauron had returned to Aman and received the judgement of Manwe at the end of the First Age, rather than remaining in Middle-Earth (Silmarillion p. 285 hardback)? Describe resultant cultural differences which would have taken place in the Second, Third and Fourth Ages. Special emphasis should be given to the cultures of the Grey Havens, Numenor (including the Dunedain and the Black Numenoreans), the Rohirrim, the Dunlendings and others descending from the peoples of the White Mountains, the Ents, the peoples of Khand, the Orcs (particularly those tribes living in the Grey, Misty and Ash Mountains and the Mountains of Shadow), the Elven peoples of Gil-Galad (include Elrond and the likelihood of Rivendell's being constructed), the Hobbits (beginning from when they were living in the Vales of Anduin), and the Haradrim (both Near and Far Harad must be covered for full credit). Also speculate on the differences in culture which would take place in Aman as Sauron describes his experience with evil to the Valar, Maiar, and Eldar living there. On Silmarillion p. 65, it states that "Manwe was free from evil and could not comprehend it"; would he gain an understanding of evil from the experiences of Sauron? Be prepared to defend your answer

Geektastic!

Pure Geek
43 % Nerd, 52% Geek, 47% Dork
For The Record:

A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.
A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.
A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.
You scored better than half in Geek, earning you the title of: Pure Geek.

It's not that you're a school junkie, like the nerd, and you don't really stand out in a crowd, like the dork, you just have some interests that aren't quite mainstream. Perhaps it's anime, perhaps it's computers, perhaps it's bottlecaps, perhaps it's all of those and more. Your interests take you to events and gatherings that are filled with people you find unusual and beyond-the-pale, but you don't quite consider yourself "of that crowd." Instead, you consider yourself to be fairly normal.

Which, you are.

Congratulations! You're the one on the RIGHT!

Another end of an era...

Well it's 1:50am and i'm plastered again. Today was the sending off of Dirty Fairy and Cool Car Guy. On Wednesday they leave the Frozen North for the sunnier climes of Cymru (Wales to the uneducated). Tonight Dead Princess and The King hosted a sending off party for them at which almost all of their friends attended (those who didn't attend were absent by reason of distance). We wish them luck in their new venture.

As an aside I'd personally like to thank The King for opening up his wine and spirits cellar to me and Chaos for an entertaining debate on the economy of Star Wars which was doomed to failure on my part but was entertaining for the 20 minutes it took to walk the distance. I love efending a doomed position.

And I was hoping for Jon...

The Fourth Doctor
You are the Fourth Doctor: A walking Bohemian
conundrum with a brooding personal magnetism
and a first-rate intellect concealed somewhere
beneath your charmingly goofy exterior. You are
perhaps the most terribly clever of all the
Doctors, though your occasional bouts of
childishness get you in trouble. You never go
looking for a fight, but when someone messes
with you... good heavens, are they ever sorry
they did.

Which Incarnation of the Doctor Are You?

I took this test 4 diffeent times over three days hoping for Jon and all I got was Tom. Well, you can't argue with the truth. What do you think?

I sense competition management...

People who know me know that for pleasure I tend to read brick-thick fantasy novels. I've finally learned the release date for two of them. Knife of Dreams by Robert Jordan is from the long running Wheel of Time series. This will be the eleventh book to be published since 1991 and I've been following it closely since practically day one. The tenth was published in early 2003 and this one will be in the shops on 11/10/2005. Practically a two year wait between books but no matter.

The other is A Feast for Crows from George R. R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series. This set is shorter, only four books (technically three but they separated book three into parts one and two) but I'm just as avidly hooked. The last part was published in the UK in 2000 and we've been waiting ever since. (Cries of "GET ON WITH IT!" from off camera). Ice and Fire has been on the go since 1996, not a bad initial spurt but it has slowed right down in recent years. Book four will be published in the UK on 17/10/2005.

I was looking at these dates and wondered why so close together? I assume the books are all ready to go so why release two of the most eagerly awaited novels in the genre so close together?

But it's a good kind of pain...

Today was a bit different. Aparently Her Majesty's Customs and Revenue (the former Inland Revenue merged with Her Majesty's Customs and Excise and my current employers for those who haven't been paying attention) run a volunteers day. My team decised to help Dundee City Council's Ranger Service. We envisaged maybe clearing up some litter and erecting some squirrel boxes. Not too much hassle. A break from the routine, fresh air and some easy, not too demanding physical tasks. Or so we thought.

The time was 9:30am, the palce was Trottick Mill Ponds. A former linen and jute mill's source of power allowed to become a nature reserve. Our job today was to assist the ranger in clearing out some of the channels that lead from the local river, the Dighty Burn, via the sluice gates to the ponds themselves. Thse channels had become silted up over the last year or so and if they weren't cleared would prevent the river from filling the ponds. The paths to the channels wouldn't support a small digger so enter us, stage left.

Waders on our legs (except for me, my feet are too big) and spades in hand we proceded to dig out the channels to their stone bottoms, removing a years accumulated silt and detritus. Yuck. It was nasty, messy, smelly hard work and it took is most of the day to shovel and shift the silt.

We did get a break from silt shovelling for an hour or so after lunch but that was only to pour and mix concrete to repair some vandalised nature information signs. More spade work. And after that? Silt! Yay.

At the end of the day, however, with our backs aching and hands blistering from the unaccustomed hard graft we surveyed what we had done with a muck covered, satisfied air. We opened the sluice gates and after a few moments the water ran free and clear. Huzzah. We felt good. We were in pain but we felt good.

Good job it's only once a year... I may come to like it otherwise...

Return to form...

It's 1:23am and I'm smashed again.

It's the last night of my Ireland excursion. The neolithic tombs were the highlight of my cultural explorations. I had hoped to take in the national trust property Mount Stewart but time didn't allow (read, I was too lazy). Once again if you're in the area do visit. It is the single most impressive National Trust property I have ever seen. In Norn Iron it is the one thing I would insist on a visitor seeing apart from the Antrim Coast (Carrickarede and the Giant's Causeway).

Today I was involved in such irish traditional past times as Crazy Golf (I came second, losing to my sister)and Ten Pin Bowlng at The Sheep Bridge Inn, Newry(I came last, I blame the facilities, they're not very good).

As you may guess, I have spent the last few hours in a drinking establishment. I spent it in the company of my father and his brother. Despite earlier comments to our younger readers I can't stress enough how vital it is to do this. Several points of view were aired and the world was put to rights by people speaking guff.

The point of this waffle is to realise that your elders are a resource to be tapped when they're smashed and to use them and not to take it to heart, when you describe how you could build a dirty bomb and detonate it in a major metropolitan area for maximum effect on the back of an envelope, when they tell you to shut up and call you a loon.

Touring the Homeland

So, Newgrange at Bru Na Boinne. If you want to get an idea of how far back Ireland's past goes into pre-history this is the best way to do it. The three Passage Tombs in the Boyne Valley, Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth, of which Newgrange is the most famous, carry this off spectacularly. If you can get the chance to go and see them whenever you're in Ireland take it. You'll be kicking yourself for tears if you miss it.

This was my third bisit to the region in the last 20 years and it was impressive to see how far both the restoration and the visitor information had come. Being declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO has done it no harm at all.

This time I went to seel Knowth for the first time. Bigger and more archaeologically siginficant than Newgrange it remains less well known despite it containing one third of Western Europe's megalithic artwork. This possibly due to the damage to the entrances to it's passages caused by early christian diggings that prevents the sun lighting up the central chambers at the equinoxes unlike Newgrange where the sun still lights up the tombs at the solstices.

I found the whole experience much more enlightening this time round. Possibly due to my age, possibly due to the excellent tour guides who had all the answers to your questions readily to hand. The only thing they didn't know was the significance of some of the art work. They had many theories and were quick to point out that some of the tourist's views were just as valid. The only thing they ruled out categorically to one set of American tourists was alien involvement.

Let this be a lesson to our younger readers...

I've managed to get the civil service to give me a holiday. So I've taken a holiday with my folks. If you are a regular reader of my blogg you'll know that that means a time warp to the eighties to Norn Iron.

Now, we all know that Norn Iron is a hotbed of political discourse of differing political opinions where if one side says that the sky is blue the other will say that the blue thing is not the sky and is not even blue to begin with. (Please listen to Radio Four's Now Show. Really.

But that's beside the point. The object of this blogg (while I'm drunk, Huzzah) is to advise our younger readers not to get inebriated with their progenitors.

I went for a few pints (5) with my dad in the nearby pub and then came back for Sunday dinner (not Lunch) with my mum. Bad idea. Couple alcohol with Norn Iron polarised political values and you'll find that no-one can disagree sensibly and the evening will end with staggering sixty year olds and one thirty one year old determined to write up his holiday experience all unhappy with each other.

Tomorrow, Newgrange. Europe's oldest Neolithic tomb... Maybe I can leave them there..

Moving Stuff...

You know, I keep saying never again but I keep helping folks shift house. This time I spent my quality Sunday loagfing time helping Slacker move to Livingston. No heavy lifting this time, though, just the drive there and back. I'll probably have to do it a total of three times to get all of the stuff he wants shifted and today was the second run.

A pleasant drive through the Tay Valley along the motorway and then for the second time in two weeks a magical mystery tour through Livingston. Hopefully by next time he'll know the streets of his new town...

A very generous fellow, Slacker. Payment for this transportation service was his fridge-freezer and a card table. Unfortunately I couldn't bid him up to the airzooka.

Sigh.

Bar-B-Q Season

So, another week of dealing with the Great (dim witted) British Public s over and I relax by going to a barbie, my third of the year. This one was a quiet affair witha just a few friends 'round at Dirty Fairy and Cool Car Guy's place. Ate steaming chunks of dead animal. Waffled lots, went home.

And you're sober?

Yep. Driving. It's a bummer. On the upside, it did allow me to waltz off with Slacker's fridge-freezer with the minimum of hassle. Note to self. Muffin wants his washing machine so if someone's going to help me shift it down two flights of stairs then she'd better start to sweet talk Agent Grey.

We're the best...

...or so they tell me.

It was the Nationals last weekend. Despite my ineptitude the team managed to get checked in to the Bradford Holiday Inn (not Leeds) and the team registered even though they never heard of Us.

Hats off to Bradford, a good time was had by almost all (sorry Austin). Our wargaming contingent was wiped out to the last man by a bad luck storm in the area of the Blood Bowl Arena and by Laid Back Guy's second day hangover. No points there. On the other hand, our Roleplayers (the only reason to turn up in my opinion) did their usual thing with two third places (Horse Girl and The Cryptic Commie), two second places (Dr. Sordid and Bugler) and two first palces (Mystery Girl and SixFoot Hobbit). Fourth place over all out of nineteen other teams. No CCG or Wargame points. Just goes to show how good we are.

New year, New life

And behold, in the early days of 2005 there would come a sign that we must quit this place of our ancestors and travel to new locations and dwell among strangers...

So, in January, we recieved a letter from the landlords that the lease was up and new Scottish Housing legislation would come into effect at RPC and that it would no longer be able to house all three of us as the place was only licensed for two people or one family. Bit strange in a three bedroom flat but who are we to argue with the powers that be?

There was a crazed month or so of flat hunting to follow. Laid Back Guy and myself decided that it was time to quit the place. Sure, it was cheap but the place needed serious redecoration and repair and the only thing holding us there was apathy and inertia. LBG found somewhere within a week using his insane luck powers but I was not so fortunate. Oh, I found this place all right, right price and so on but the landlords needed more ID than an old UDR/RUC joint foot patrol. Having sorted this (and those of you who know me will realise how difficult this was) all I had to do was wait for the bank to tell them that I was able to pay on time when required. And so I waited....and waited...and waited. And then someone else got the flat. Bum. Not to worry, there was a similar flat on the same street and when the bank finally came through I was allowed to get the keys. Huzzah.

Moving was unpleasant. It always is. Each time I say never again. At least this time it was my own stuff and I had built up some move house credit with several friends (many thanks to Agent Grey, Chaos, Ubergeek and Laid Back Guy). There was a minor dilemma when I realised I only had room for one of my five sofas but I managed to leave the rest behind with only a minor wrench. When it was all over I had a place of my own for the first time. Cor, what an adventure!

With the first sign would come a herlad bringing news of events and requests for aid in many travails accross the land and one would be found suitable...

The week I got the news about the lease I also bought a Courier on the Friday in my usual haope of finding a job that would (1) bring in more cash and (2) more importantly get me away from the Mecca and stop my brain's descent into mush. There was one that Friday that appealed with the Inland Revenue. I applied and went to the interview. What a rigmarole! More forms of ID than I knew existed. I had to send back to Norn Iron to get several of them. I never knew that there was a long form Birth Certificate.

Simple enough interview in three stages. A computerised aptitude test a standard interview and a role-playing exercise. Joy. Since the interview I've been on tenterhooks waiting for the results and I was 'phoned today about 20 minutes before I started this blogg. Success! In one month's time, no more Mecca. New flat, new job, new life maybe even? Let's wait and see.

Tune in again soon, same Blogg time, same Blogg channel.

Given that there's just been a three month delay I dont think that's appropriate any more. I'll have to come up with a new one.

Suggestions?

....aaaaand we're back!

From my posting you'll have noticed that either I got a new job or I missed.

I missed.

Yep, I still work for Rob the Elderly PLC and am still a waster. Nuts. I'm tempted to indulge is self pity and 'coz it's my blogg, I will!

angst

n : an acute but unspecific feeling of anxiety; usually reserved for philosophical anxiety about the world or about personal freedom [syn: Angst]

It's one, ante meridian, and I'm a bit sloshed. Shock, horror. Never posted that before.

I've just returned from Agent Grey and Chocolate Muffin's place where they were celebrating their handfasting after being together for almost a year. (It may actually be a year, I'm not very good on dates). Hooray for them and more power to their elbows! A happier couple there couldn't be and I wish them all the best for the future.

The usual suspects were there: Chaos Guy and friend of Chaos, Cool Car Guy and Dirty Fairy, Beren and Luthien, Creative Slacker, Really Big Guy and me.

You'll have noticed that I've put them together in their respective couples where appropriate and if you're observant you'll have noticed that the couples have outnumbered the singletons. That's right, four couples, three single guys.
One still in the throws of ex-ness (sorry), Really Big Guy and me.

I'm not sure what RBG's story is, I'm not as close to him as some of the others. Hell, I'm not all that sure what MY story is but then I'm just a crazy mixed up thirty year old (thirty one next year).

But back to the theme of angst. Checking the definition (above) I've realized that the word has grown to encompass more than it's meaning.

When I left the very good party, last as usual as there was booze I still hadn't drunk and I was suffering from either angst or wine in moderately excessive quantities (I could walk home in a straight line), I realized I was extremely irritated/angry. On analysis of this emotion I realized it was because I was still thirty and single.

Was this my friends fault? Most emphatically not.

The world's fault? Probably not.

My fault? Probably.

Well if it's your fault, why are you winging? I dunno, leave me alone.

This was the Smeagol/Gollum conversation highlights as I walked home. Having written it up I've decided that I need help, my preciousss...

Ye Gods but I'm crap...

Almost a month since my last post. Apathy, thy name is SixFoot Hobbit.

What have I done since last time? Bugger all, really. That's what apathy means. I've been drunk a couple of times, went to a birthday/anniversary combo. Insulted a friend, crawled and apologized later (sorry again, Cool Car Guy)and faffed about.

But now my apathy is at an end. I have goals and everything. I've decided to leave my job at the font of all tedium. Actually, I decided that about six and a half years ago but...*sigh*...apathy. However, one needs incentive (beyond poor pay, the general public and colleagues with either the I.Q. of a doughnut or the managerial talents of Stalin) and so I have decided that if I can't find a new job or at least an interview by the end of the month I'll shoot myself. Drastic, I know, but necessary. I know me. Abject terror is the only thing that'll get me moving (I hope).

In other non-apathy news, today, Sunday, was a triumph of hope over experience. The LSFIAF movie is gathering much momentum. Many of the principals were in attendance today for script, costume and prop discussions. It may be that the damn thing will get made! Huzzah! The only fly in the ointment? I have no directly applied talent for the project. It's stunning how many talented, organized people I know. Everyone who was there today had something cogent to say on the project or had moved ahead and applied skill to props or costumes. Many, many thanks to the Slacker (Director, Writer, Story Boards Producer), Chocolate Muffin (Costumes, Prodder-in-Chief, Accounts, Catering), Dirty Fairy(Costumes), Mystery Girl(costumes, Concept Art), Agent Grey(Props R'n'D and Implementation) and Rules Monkey (Heroic Lead, Choreography). I made tea and asked questions. Apparently my job is to decide if x is Star Wars where x is script, prop costume or whatever. Would that be continuity? I don't know. I do know that this afternoon I had the strange combination of feeling both useless and pride. Useless because I have been about as much use to the endeavor as a bicycle is to a fish and pride because all these cool people are my friends. Cheers guys!

It's 3:35am and I'm as nissed as a pewt...

I've had the most wonderful day today (after leaving work). I went to Glamis Castle for A Grand Scottish Prom the music and company was brilliant. The music included Von Suppe, Strauss, Puccini, Bizet, Mozart, Sibelius, Rimsky Korsakov and finished with Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture and fireworks. Great. The company included HorseGirl, Rules Monkey, Airman and Spouse of Airman. If it wasn't for them I wouldn't be there.

More later.

Retraction

I recently had a go at Slacker because the only thing he thought was worth posting about was the completion of a game.

I'm sorry.

I'VE FINISHED IT!

I can sleep again. I've just completed one of the most addictive point and clicks ever and it was all free! Please check out the very worthy Mystery of Time and Space but I warn you: It Eats Time!

...remain hidden to protect the guilty. You know who you are and as for the rest, WORK IT OUT!.

You had your chance to find out what was what. OK, the poll didn't work but there is a comment feature. If you still want to know, tough. You had your chance and you blew it. Now stop bugging me with complaints that you don't know who's who. I'm not saying.

Cheers to 'Muffin for using the comment feature and re-stating their need for annonymity. The SIS won't get anything from me!

It's 12:55pm and I'm not sure if I'm Sober...

I went to Vague Boy's birthday bash last night. Got very drunk and had to crash there. Also in attendance were Vague Boy's LISO- Screamer, Dirty Fairy, Cool Car Guy and one of Vague Boy and Screamer's friends who I don't know well enough to give a name to. She was quiet and feeling a bit under the weather so that's understandable.

LISO life seems to aggree with Vague Boy. When we shared a flat together he was a bit, well, vague about the place and lax about tidying and stuff. His new place was a picture. The two of them have really done a number on the place in the decor stakes and so on and they seem to be really together. Cool. It's about time Vague Boy had a bit of luck in the relationship stakes. Most of his exes seem to have been ready for the white blazer with the optional wrap around sleeves. Originally I thought that Screamer was in this category too but, hey, what do I know?

Once I was drunk enough there were party games involving a playstation and a dance mat and later, twister. Oh dear, oh dear...

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Vague Boy and Screamer for putting me up last night. I'd like to think that if I hadn't had those two vodkas I'd have been capable of getting home after a bottle of Jamesons but as we can now see vodka joins those drinks that have exaggerated effects on my system, just like rum.

By the way, I don't do this often. I'm only a binge drinker in moderation. I think the blogg skews people's perceptions of me. I'm not a drunken layabout, just one that seems to like blogging after drunken events. Normally I'm quite a sober layabout.

All grown up

I attended a housewarming last night.  My very good friend of over 10 years, Socialite, has bought for himself a house.  He has a real job that pays real money and is living with his girlfriend and two great kids.  Wow.  More and more of my friends are growing up.  sometimes I feel that I am needed to keep the standards down and continue to act my shoe size and not my age.

I hope that we didn't scare off his 'normal' friends last night.  They did seem to be confused by all of us gamers.  You could easily see that neither group understood the other by the automatic group segregation that they self imposed but I understand that everyone had a great time (at least I did).

It's 1:30am and I'M NOT DRUNK

Strange, isn't it?

I've had guests over, played games and talked about life, the universe and everything. We watched Sport Relief's Stars in fast Cars and so on. There was booze present and I didn't drink any, going for tea instead. I think I may be coming down with something. Tomorrow I meet my parents and will do things. More later.

Nostalgia TV

I've recently been indulging my penchant for TV sci-fi by watching that classic of the seventies, Battlestar Galactica, on DVD. I'd thought that I'd seen them all over the years but in the first twelve I came across several that I'm sure I hadn't seen before.

And whilst I watched I wondered to myself, "Whatever became of Noah Hathaway (Boxey)?" If you want to know, you can find out here. I was surprised.

BBC 7

Yes, I know that it's listed in the People and Stuff I Like section on the sidebar but I can't state enough how great this site is. I've been listening to the radio available from this site all night (from 7pm 'til now), browsing the programmes available and for the first time really getting involved in the stuff. It's the best evenings entertainment from the BBC I've had in a very long time.

And it's all available for free and about five days worth of broadcasts are there on demand!

Sometimes you realize the license fee is worth it.

It's 3:15am and...

I assume I don't have to finish the sentence...

It's after 3am and everyone has left about two hours ago leaving me to my own devices. I assume everyone had a good time, celebrating degrees and Doctorates.

I enjoyed the whole evening, a meal at a local Thai Restaurant and then on to my place to round out the night. It was also Beren's birthday and we celebrated that too (a little, I think he didn't want to advertise he was 30!)

I feel a little in awe of all my friends. Of all the people present tonight I was almost the only one present without a basic degree ('cause I'm a drop out because of the Commonwealth Potato Collection, long story, and Agent Grey because of reasons [I don't know, but he is my friend] and Rules Monkey for much the same reasons) but I wish them all well. Tonight there was a wealth of the assembled intellect of the UK:
Doctor Beren and Doctor Luthien
Chocolate Muffin Ba
Bubble Ba
Mystery Girl Ba
Chaos Bsc
Doctor Ooze
Doctor Horse Girl
Cool Car Guy Bsc
Dirty Fairy Bsc or whatever a Nursing degree is

If I got anyone's degree wrong, it's my fault for not prying enough. I salute all of you for putting up with the trials and tribulations I couldn't be bothered with at the home stretch of my degree and wish you all the very best of luck in the future. I just wish...But if wishes were horses then I'd be with you...And not at the Mecca!

1.30 am and I'm a bit sozzled

I've had a rough day at work. Nothing worked as I wanted it to, I made some basic mistakes 'cause 14hrs in the same building'll do that to you and it was Saturday night.

When I'd finished I checked my mobile and found that RulesMonkey had invited me to the pub during the Blues Festival. 'Nuff said . I went along to the establishment to find it packed to overflowing and no sign of RulesMonkey or HorseGirl and so went home.

However, my appetite hed been whetted and I was in a fix. I needed a client and so called Beren to see if he was free. A couple of short 'phone calls later saw me at The King and Dead Princess' place for a late evening with Beren, Luthien, Ditrty Fairy, Cool Car Guy, UberOrk and Strange Woman. Nice. I needed booze and company after that day and I was well rewarded.

An Unexpected Party

Normally I would have posted after everyone went home, but I was too drunk for that for once.

A "surprise" party. Cool. I thought a couple of friends were calling round for drinks but it turned out to be the "throng" Bilbo feared instead! Food, booze and craic and all I had to provide was the location. Cheers to everyone who showed up to make last night a great night. I could do with more of that kind of surprise!

Finally, the 20th Century!

Ok, a bit over the top but that's how I feel. Despite years of saying that I'm not going to get a mobile phone 'cause they're intrusive and rude and that the only way I'd buy one was if Grand Moff Blunkett pried one into my cold, dead hands...I've bought one.

There's my principles for you. Throw a bit of cheap tech at me and dress it up right and I'm drooling like the rest of the geeks and reaching for my wallet.

I'm not proud...and now I can take phone photos. Cool.

There and Back Again

A SixFoot Hobbit's Holiday

Well, I went to Ireland, saw my folks, and I encountered no (in order) dwarves, wizards, trolls, high elves, goblins, magic rings, wee beasties that live under mountains at underground lakes and ask riddles, wargs, eagles, werebears, giant spiders, wood elves, lake men or dragons and now I'm back.

Not much of a holiday, really...

I'd forgotten how good Guinness was in Ireland...

Oh, Sorry...

It's 1:35am and I'm quite merry...

I've been on a whirlwind tour of the east coast of Ireland today with my dad. Armagh, Down, Monaghan, Westmeath, Louth, Dublin and Wicklow. Not bad for one day. Later I met Munchkin, FionnTemplate and BucketWoman for a chat and went to a pub quiz at Newry Golf Club and drank the afore mentioned Guinness. Oh, and I also bought a new hat. Huzzah.

Finally

It's taken me about 30 hours to make it this far. My parent's machine is a bit of an antique and it's taken me 10 minutes to get from dial up to here this time. All my other attempts have ended in failure.I told them about broadband but they say that it's unavailable in this region at the moment. The wonders of BT...

Already I'm going a bit nuts. There's not much to do in Cloughogue (pronounced Clog). My mum has roped me into clearing out the attic. Today it was books. Lots of books. Very few of them mine. I like mine where I can get them. There were some old notes from school and university. I wrote some shite back then. I decided not to save any of it for posterity except my St. Colman's College report cards. I also found a Christmas present from 1983. Doctor Who - A celebration. 20 Years in Time and Space. Cool. It'll go well with my present from 2003, 40 years in the Tardis. On a Who related note, I've checked my copy of the FASA game I got from eBay. Mint doesn't cover it. Original dice, FASA order form and FASA catalogue. And they're in mint condition too!

I took my father to see The Day After Tomorrow tonight. He didn't like it. "Too slow", he said. I liked it although I thought the plot was guff. The ocean currents weren't even marked correctly. They showed the gulf stream moving from the British Isles to the Gulf of Mexico. Really, where's the realism...?

When I left RPC this morning Ialso received a parcel from the postie, the First ed. Fasa box set of the Dr Who RPG...in mint condition...with original dice even! Huzzah for eBay! I have been looking for this for 12+ years. I must be living right!

The Tragedy of Hector

That's my alternate title for Troy. I've just returned from seeing it at the DCA in town. Gods, what a movie. I was prepared to hate it or nitpick about differences between the Film and The Illiad but I just didn't care. An immense spectacle of epic proportions! With a cast of thousands (of cgi people and ships)!

I wonder if Sean Bean and Brad Pitt got together and compared notes about getting feathered at the end of a movie. I hope they make a sequel (Homer did) and apply the same production values to The Odyssey

For those of you, like me, who love the ancient myths of the Greeks try Mythweb for fairly cool abridged versions.

Messing about in boats

I was invited to go on a kayaking trip today. Something outdoors and fun, I thought. Makes a change from Bloodbowl , so I went.

First canoe wasn't too successful. I capsized twice. It was so small and nimble that I had trouble controlling it. The least stroke sent it careening over the lake surface. The instructors then took pity on me an offered me a substantially larger canoe, the Star Destroyer of canoes. Much more to my taste. It took an effort to change its direction and was considerably more stable. In this I was able to power back and forth across the lake at a fair rate of knots. Groovy. It was a shame when the hour was up. I hope to go back again soon.

4:50 am and I'm totally smashed

Dirty Fairy and Cool Car Guy decided to throw a bar-b-q. Fair enough. Myself, Beren and Luthien and Bubble and Ooze were also in attendance. (Note: one unmarried guy among the couples.) Many meat feasts later and we retired to the living room to consume more alcohol after Beren and Luthien left.

Much talk into the wee small hours ensued after a relocation to Bubble and Ooze's place after we had finished all the booze in the other flat.

This included the very bad idea of internet purity tests, which I lost. (92% on the hundred pointer and 95% on the 1500 pointer.)

I left at 4:10am and ran into BTBubble on the way down the road. Strange coincidence as I had previously met her on the way to work at 11:30am on Saturday. Short discussion ensued as we had previously worked together at Purgatory Ltd. Weird.

I've now got back home and found Double Barrel sleeping on my couch. I wonder what the Ubergeek has got up to in my absence...

It's 1:00am and I'm drunk again

Yes, Slacker, I do like the music from Force Commander. I've got it.

But seriously, eating people? In this day and age?

By the way, I'm just back from Agent Grey's Birthday Bar-B-Q and it was fun. Steaming chunks of carbonized dead animal, booze, discussions on Terrorism with Tinuviel and Mystery Girl and on Prophecies with Chaos and the Ubergeek.

I can't remember quite what I ate, but I do remember that Dirty Fairy and Cool car Guy weren't in attendance. Coincidence?

*Except when he's moving house.

Spent a fair chunk of today helping a friend move house. Many, many boxes of books. How come paper is so heavy? 'Muffin says it's because there's less air in the boxes but I don't believe her. It's paper, for gods sake...

DAFTAs

Well that's that for another year. The highs and lows of the society have been reached and our peers have selected the great and the good from among us. What am I talking about?

The DAFTAs of course!

The DURPS Awards For Theatrical Absurdity.

The 6th annual awards ceremony was held yesterday and once again I was compere-ing it with my partner in crime, Rules Monkey. As usual it was good for all of us to get together and recount many glorious lies of battle and single out the best and worst of them for accolades and ridicule. I love this day and long may it continue. You can see the results here

Afterwards we retired and watched Terry slate the acts in the Eurovision Song Contest. This is a great BBC institution and a worthy laugh. As usual the voting made no sense but the company was fine. On to the Ukraine next year!

It goes something like this: I'm in the minority.

"Earthshaking!" you cry. "You're a gamer!"

No I know this. I'm in a rapidly increasing minority of gamers. Single gamers. (Groans from the audience, catcalls of get over it abound.)

There's fewer and fewer of us as time goes by. Soon I'll be that last bastion of geekdom. The Gamer Single Bloke. And it's starting to rankle more and more. The number of couples I can name of the top of my head is worrying. Soon there'll be none of us left. Already I feel like the comedy bloke in the American Light Drama. You know, the one everyone cheers when he appears for his weekly cameo. The one the girlfriend disapproves of. The one who drags the star into the amusing scrape of the week.

Perhaps I should embrace this trend. If it continues I'll become the Mcguffin in my friend's lives. After all, what else should the High Priest of Mcguffin aspire to?

Rewarding as this sounds, I wonder when I'll get a plotline of my own...

It started at the start of the week when I was reminded that I was invited on this trip. "Damn", sez I, "I'm not sure if I can get the time off". "Try", sez they and thus I do. One spurious family emergency later and no small amount of guilt on my part (self administered I hasten to add) and off we go to Lossiemouth. (The even further North.)

But it wasn't the frozen North! We had good weather! I even got burned!! That's not happened in over 15 years. We blokes (Cool Car Guy, Agent Grey, Beren, Greenstreet and myself) wallowed in manly pursuits like wood hewing and the like whilst the ladies (Dirty Fairy, Tinuviel and 'Muffin) applauded and gathered twigs and the like. There was booze and food aplenty, ancient ceremonies on beaches, bonfires, faff, Pop-Up Pirate and more. Seven hours on the beach! Fresh air exercise and friends. Huzzah. Gifts that had been made were exchanged (I'm kak-handed so no gifts were made. A blot on my personal landscape but all silver linings have a cloud).

The flat we stayed in was perfect. This is no hyperbolic exaggeration. It really was. I'd go back like a shot if I could. Many, many thanks to 'Muffins folks for letting us use it. In fact, I will go back and take the LAAG with me for a weekend or a week if permitted (I know which I'm angling for). It's now 4.10 am and I'm knacked. I'd describe the weekend better only that'd be effort.

I don't know why I bother

I found this on Slacker's Blogg.

you suck, and that's sad
you are the "you suck, and that's sad"

Yaaaaay!!!

Braodband is cool. Web pages just happen. How did I live without it? I've been messing with it for most of the day and may not quit just yet...

The Scouring of the Bus

Well, that's the Nationals weekend almost over for me. I've attended, imbibed, played, faffed, sat behind the wheel of the bus and shouted at 2-3 in the morning (sorry!) and all sorts of other stuff. The bus is clean and back at the university car park.

So why is my weekend not over yet?

'Cause I've still got to give back the keys and the log book! For some reason, there's no-one about at 3:30am at the union. Curious...

But back to the main event! The team achieved their goal! We didn't win! That prize went to BURPS of Bradford. Expect great big comedy bombs next year. The General got an honourable mention for his Wood Elf army painting, Horse Girl came third in Homebrew (I suspect socialite was overly stern in marking to avoid cries of "fix!"), Slacker came second in open action (check out his Blogg soon to see how smug he'll be!) and Oddie came first in the Steel Yourself category (swashbuckling) again. Cool.

For myself, I was forced to play D20 Star Wars on both days with argumentative players. Nothing could be done without at least 4 people wanting a say in the minutiae of any plan. Dull. To make matters worse, on the first day, my character didn't seem to be designed with the scenario in mind. Nothing to do. Ho-Hum. I think I'm going to give SW a miss from now on. Yes, it is my favourite system, but you need good players and a good GM to make it work. SW is about banter, defying the odds and making it up as you go along. Not detailed plans and a 15 minute discussion about if we should go up or down in the turbolift first. I think I'll try systemless next year. No dice, no system, just solid roleplaying.

A vote of thanks on two counts here to Horse Girl and 'Muffin. They made SPECTACULAR costumes for the fancy dress part of our weekend and also acted as angels of mercy when Oddie's crew became stranded after a car crash; 'Muffin fetching them on the day and therefore not getting in until 11pm on the Friday and then both of them returning the victims on the Sunday. Cheers, guys! With any luck you'll be able to see the photo's of the cozzies on one of the bloggs soon and also get a chance to see Agent Grey's K-9 as well. It's really cool too.

For Neither Love Nor Money...

I hate shopping for clothes. It's one of my least favourite pastimes. It ranks up there with going to the bank or having a tooth extracted. The problem is all those trendy shops. The assistants look at me as if I've dropped off a UFO. OK, I dress scruffily and am not the right shape, but come on...at least pay me no attention rather than the normal derisive curiosity.

Today I wouldn't have minded so much only NO SHOP IN DUNDEE stocks this simple item of clothing. I spent two hours looking for one and didn't find any. Not one. Once upon a time, a few years ago, you couldn't enter a shop without tripping over several rails of them.

What is it?

A waistcoat.

6:05am and I'm quite sober...

Makes a change. Well, not really. I'm normally a very sober person, it's just that recent posts may have skewed the impression.

I've had a very tiring week. 19 days without a day off, a 50hr week and a friend's stag night at the end of it all. Wow. It's a wonder that I'm still sane.

Today, well...Yesterday now, was declared a day of faff. I got to wake up late, potter about, watch the Americans make a hash of Scrapheap challenge and go to the cinema with Slacker. I can wholly recommend Shaun of the Dead. Spaced the Movie but more so. I didn't miss either the £5 or the two hours spent watching it. The movie was very clever and the opening sequence was a very smart insight into modern living. Go see it if you like Channel 4 Brit Com.

As to why I'm still awake? Slacker loaned me the new Battlestar Galactica miniseries. I loved it! It was a very good take on a childhood favourite. The only thing missingwass the original music (which made a couple of cameos). The female Starbuck didn't change the character at all and thecharacterizationn of Baltar was inspired. The only drawback? Boxy lives! (Noooooooo!)

It's 7.05am and I'm not as drunk as I was...

These Bloggs seem to have a running theme...hmm...

Well, after last weekend's shindig I was obscenely cheerful and it lasted for most of the week. I woke up with a daft grin on my face and went to work happy, like I was something from Sesame St. (Muppet or Human, your choice)

It couldn't last. I'm not sure if it was the two 12hr+ shifts I was forced to work this week in addition to my normal ones, with one more to come (today), or if it's my usual dissatisfacton with life rearing it's ugly head but I'm suddenly hacked off with the world in general again.

Maybe it's my return from Bubble and Ooze's sten night and the demon drink is having it's wicked way with me or it's my return from the sten night and I'm bemoaning my single status again. I hope it's not the latter, I thought I got all that out of my system last month.

1.37 am and I'm even more smashed

I can almost see the keyboad without typing double.

The end of semester party has just ended with the attendance of such notables as Dirty Fairy, Cool Car Guy, Agent Grey, Chocalate Muffin, Rules Monkey, Horse Girl, Double Barrel, Ubergeek, Mystery Girl, Chaos, Friend of Chaos, and Airman and Spouse of Airman.

Gods, but I wish I cold be more original when drunk.

It was fun, especially the game known as Never, Never (thanks, Sylvia.)

1.04 am and I'm somewhat smashed

I've just said good-bye to Dirty Fairy and Cool Car Guy. Everyone who turned up to Tinuviel's birthday party seemed to have a good time. I even got to deplete Beren's whiskey reserves. (Huzzah.) With any luck everyone will turn up to the end of term/semester bash tomorrow. Those who were here for the birthday bash will hopefully carry on where they left off (and bring back the whiskey).

Call me Borusa

My DURPS career has closely mirrored this infamous Time Lord's.

Many years as member (Time Lord) with friendly links to the committee (High Council)...

A year as Ordinary Member (Cardinal)...

A year as Secretary (Chancellor)...

Now elected President (Lord President)...

Does this mean that I have to get the Evil Pixie Hat and the Coronet of Rassilon, put my friends in the Death Zone and attempt to become both immortal and President for Life?

I hope so...

They came out of the North...

They did, you know. Gun Man and The Librarian. I've just spent a day in Gun Man's company (Tuesday) and then a further day (Wednesday) in the company of both Gun Man and The Librarian whilst visiting New Mum and New Dad in Arbroath with the help of The D20 God. (These ones should be easy to figure out, you were there).

Gun Man and I spent all of Tuesday faffing, talking over old times (Fuck the system!!; I love handy pipe time...),watching videos (Roger and Me; Monster's Inc.) and drinking beer. It was very therapeutic. Then on Wednesday all four of us (GM, TL, D20G, SFH) went to annoy New Mum and New Dad. They would feed us vegetarian fare, tasty vegetarian fare, and in return we helped with the preparations. D20G was very taken with tossing the salad. It was as if he had found his culinary niche. Afterwards it was more faff and Once Upon a time in Mexico on the big screen. I love having friends with cool tech...

Archaeology

Decided that sleep would be a bad plan last night/this morning as work comes far too early. What to do then?

Archaeology.

I decided to dig three trenches in my room. One along each side of the bed. Not only did I discover the carpet in some places but some old campaign notes including Episode IV.v Alliance Defiant and the prototype scenario for Crouching Jedi, Hidden Sith.

There was also evidence of a lost civilization that discarded socks wherever it went, mainly those of a religious bent and many many old copper coins of little worth. I'm now off to the channel 4 website to see if I can get Toy Robinson to do a special on this most important site...

It restores your faith

It really shows that some MP's care about the important things. If I could, I'd vote for each and every one...

MP's send open letter to BBC Chairman candidate.

A cross party group of MP's have written to Michael Grade to say "hands off Doctor Who". They are requesting a pledge from him not to interfere in the new series if he is appointed to the post of Chairman of the BBC.

The group, which includes Conservative Shadow Education Secretary Tim Collins and Labour's Stephen Pound are concerned that if Grade becomes Chairman, he may derail the project.

Famous Who-hater Grade suspended the original series in 1985 when he was Controller of BBC1. He has since gone on record to voice his dislike for the show and science-fiction in general. Speaking on ITV's This Morning show in 1999 he said of Doctor Who, "I hated it, it was awful."

It was a fix

Just finished watching BBC's Greatest Sitcom final. It started 10 weeks ago and I was right, unfortunately. There is no accounting for the Great British Public's taste. Only Fools and Horses won, a comedy that had long since lost any appeal it once had with me yet was still served every year at Christmas like an overcooked turkey. Nuts. Shamefully, my choices didn't even get into the top three. The Good Life came ninth and Yes Minister came sixth. What was that all about?

I also watched MST3K The Movie tonight. The 50's classic This Island Earth came in for the heckling by Nelson and the robots tonight and I was disappointed to see that they didn't broadcast the whole thing. I don't know if this was because This Island Earth was edited for the MST3K treatment or ITV in it's infinite wisdom decided to edit the movie for broadcast.

No apologies this time...

As promised
Oops, I fumbled again

yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

I think I did it again
I made you believe we had more than a chance
Oh baby
It might seem just like a mistake
But it doesn't mean that it's not serious
'Cause to lose all our lives
That is just so typically me
Oh baby, baby

CHORUS:
Oops!...I fumbled again
I played with the dice, got some lost in the chair
Oh baby, baby
Oops!...You think I'm no good
That my head's made of wood
I'm not that competent

(Not much to change in this verse)

You see my problem is this
I'm dreaming away
Wishing that heroes, they truly exist
I play, watching the days
Can't you see I'm a fool in so many ways
But to lose all our lives
That is just so typically me
Baby, oh

Repeat CHORUS

Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

"All aboard"
"Bradley, before you go, there's something I want you to know"
"Oh, it's getting late, but wait a minute, isn't this...?"
"Yeah, yes it is"
"But I thought the pump was a diesel one!"
"Well Brad, I went and looked and it isn't!"
"Oh, f**k! I couldn't have!"

Oops!...I fumbled again on my next roll
We're lost in this game, oh baby
Oops!...You think my head's made of wood
I'm not that competent

Bread and Circuses

I've just returned from watching Wrestlemania. As I suspected, it was a brilliant spectacle with all the comic book/bad soap twists and resolutions we've come to know and love. In short, it was trashy fun.

So, were the Romans right?

Do we need such spectacle to keep the population happy? In the final bout/fight/contest/scenario thing two men were bleeding heavily from the head having had their heads rammed quite spectacularly into metal fixtures. For our entertainment. Makes you think. Of course, you could argue that this is no different from blockbuster movies like Gladiator or Saving Private Ryan in which there is a large body count for entertainment purposes. In fact Gladiator is all about those ancient Roman spectacles. However, the difference is that all of these events aren't real. Make believe. Two of those guys were going to need stitches. Lots of stitches. If this had been outside my door the local police would have hauled them away (after getting several big burly bobbies first.)

But I enjoyed it. I don't know why. I appreciated the skill some of them showed, especially the cruiser weights; the show was well managed and was entertaining even when there was no-one in the ring and I think that I didn't waste the four and a half hours of my life spent watching it in good company. Go figure.

People are strange.

Unlucky at cards...

...unlucky at Bloodbowl.

Isn't there something I'm meant to be lucky at? Once again my superb team of Noldor elves has failed me. I suspect the Curse of Mandos had further reaching consequences than even that far sighted Valar could guess at.

Tonight I get to be socialble and am off to watch Wrestlemania at 'Muffin's along with Korvar, Agent Grey and others. I'm not really a fan of American Wrestling but this is a spectacle and will fit in well with my bad taste in TV habits.

James Garner I'm not

It's approximately 1.15 pm. The Poker Night started at 8pm, broke up at about 11pm and I was knocked out at about 9.45pm. At least I wasn't last. The wooden spoon went to Double-Barrel, closely followed by Cool Car guy. Agent Grey was next and then it was a while until I was out. Then, simultaneously, it was Map Man and Laid Back Guy on the same hand. It was a tense last three and you could cut the atmosphere with a spatula! The winners, in reverse order, were Rules Monkey, FactorX and Socialite. They walked away with £7.50, £15 and £22.50 respectively. Much fun. It was decided afterwards that we'd have another in mid April.

Afterwards Double-Barrel and myself played some chess, myself in the manner of the Waco Kid from Blazing Saddles. (i.e. I lost and was drunk.) Yes, that's right folks, to get back to the early traditions of this Blogg, I'm posting whilst slightly sloshed! (Well almost. The Ubergeek is online at this precise moment so I'm writing this on Notepad and saving it for later.)

I'd also like to take the time to thank Agent Grey and 'Muffin for taking me on a wasted trip to Toys 'R' Us today. The plan was to find some toy money in case we didn't have enough Poker Chips. Not only was there insufficient kiddie money for our needs but Rules Monkey brought along more than enough chips. Cheers guys. :)

With Aploogies to Oscar Hammerstein and Jerome Kern

That Old Dungeon Master

The old Dungeon Master, that old Dungeon Master,
He don’t play nothin’, but he keeps on runnin’
That old Dungeon Master, he just keeps rolling those dice.

He don’t play GURPS,
And we all know he don’t play Mage.
But them that play ’em, are soon forgotten, that
Old Dungeon Master, he just keeps rolling those dice, oh yes he does.

You and me, we hack and slash,
Our characters all achin’ and racked with pain, now listen!
Lift that chest, you’d better, kill that mook,
And if ya’ fumble it a little,
You’ll be reachin' for the book.

I’m so weary, and sick of tryin’,
I’m tired of gennin’, but afraid of dyin’.
That, that god-darn’ Dungeon Master, he just keeps rolling those dice.
Keep on rollin’ those dice.

Keep on rollin’ those dice.
Old Dungeon Master don’t you stop your way.
Keep on runnin’ from the north, the south, the east or west,
You gotta roll it ...

Originally it was going to be titled Old Games Master but I decided I needed a focus.

League News

I'm beginning to suspect that my Bloodbowl Team is somehow spiritually linked to Dundee FC. Both are "Premiership" teams (although the BBL is only premier due to it's being the only one) and both are in serious financial difficulty and oh yes, both are incapable of winning a match. I lost again today, 4-1, hammered by Socialite's Coffin Dodgers. What am I doing wrong? This time I didn't make any prize money even!

In other news...there isn't any! Although in the past I've compared my life to Charlie Brown's at least he managed to get a kite stuck in a tree or something on a weekly basis. Ho-hum.

Elf on Elf action

Once again, Feanor's lads have come a cropper. Losing today against the Speedy Saplings , another Elf team, 3-4. Feanor said today that it was the worst thing that had happened since losing the Silmarils. Star passer, Curufin, said,"On the bright side, the only way is up!" Curufin, who leads the league in completed passes by about ten from his nearest rival declined to comment on rumors of his leaving for the Vixens.
